My Eyes Tokyo

We’re going to talk about “War & Peace” this week and next week with a guest from Colombia. Hector Sierra, a founder of “Artists Without Borders”.

今週と来週の２週に渡り、南米コロンビア出身、”国境なきアーティストたち”主宰で作家・詩人のエクトル・シエラさんをお迎えして、「戦争と平和」について考えたいと思います。

In 1999, Hector launched “Artists Without Borders”, the Tokyo-based organization which aims to eliminate the causes of war through art. He’s flied to the battle areas such as Kosovo, former Yugoslavia, Afghanistan, East Timor and so on and met many kids. He gives them crayons and papers and let them draw pictures in order to bring smiles to their faces. Or sometimes he gives them origami to enjoy making something of a piece of paper. Playing with origami or other Japanese things leads to abolish their prejudice of different cultures.

”国境なきアーティストたち”は、１９９９年にエクトルさんが始めた活動。何も分からぬまま戦火にさらされ、目の輝きを失った子どもたちに、アートを通じて笑顔を取り戻してもらったり、折り紙などの遊びを通じて異文化への偏見や抵抗を無くすことによって、戦争の芽を摘むことを目指しています。

Children’s drawings『子どもの絵』

Have you ever seen children’s drawings?　子どもの絵　見たことある？
There is a sweet kindness when kids are drawing　何か見ると　幸せになる
They use colors as if they were artists　色使い上手　アーティストのように
Their imagination makes them real artists　想像力あふれ　天才のように

The sun is a kite! How interesting!　太陽の凧あげ　面白い場面
A line of light is held by a rabbit　うさぎに届いた　光の線
A cute cat is doing rope-jumping　ねこのなわとび？　とてもかわいい
On such a rainbow I would ride a bit　こんな虹に　乗ってみたい

One rarely sees such pure smiles　こんな笑顔は　なかなか見ない
I never be able to smile like that　一生かけても　まねできない
Don’t you know this piece of art?　知らないの？　この作品
A poet with colors painted by heart　生み出したのは　色の詩人

Oh, what happened here? This painting is sad　あら？この絵は何？　色が暗い

Hector Sierra, today’s our guest, came from Colombia and launched an organization in Japan. He’s met many children of war-ravaged countries and areas. It’s not an inimitable for me but I do what I can do for children.

Sometimes I sing songs for kids. They are much bitter critics than adults. If they become bored, they start chatting with his/her neighbor.

Now I can give them several things, not only songs but also staffed dolls or kimono dresses. I want to bring them both songs and dolls someday.

Bringing smiles to kids’ faces… My idea is almost the same as Hector’s one. It’s very hard for me to visit war-torn regions, but I would like to make kids around me happy with my songs ‘n’ dolls!

今週のゲスト、エクトル・シエラさん。コロンビアから来た外国人が、日本に事務所を置いて、そこから世界中の困っている子どもたちのところへ飛んでいく。なかなかできることではありません。でも、そんな私も時々、子どもたちの前で歌うんですよ。

「子どもの前で？」なんて言わないで下さいね。子どもは、大人よりも厳しいんです。つまらなかったり退屈だったりすると、すぐ隣の子とおしゃべりを始めてしまいます。子どもたちは嘘をつかないから、本当に勉強になります。

そんな彼らを、今なら歌以外にいろんなもので喜ばせてあげられるかもしれません。以前このブログに書いたように、私は着物の切れ端でぬいぐるみを作っています。そのぬいぐるみと一緒に、子どもたちと歌いたいな、と思っています。

子どもたちに笑顔を・・・私の思いは、エクトルさんと同じです。私は戦争や紛争が起きた（または起きている）場所にはなかなか行けませんが、私はそばにいる子どもたちを、歌とぬいぐるみで幸せな気持ちにしてあげたいと思います！

今週は番組中にもいろいろと考えさせられることが多くて、ちょっと口数が少ない私でしたが、来週は積極的に議論に参加したいと思いますので、どうぞお楽しみに♪

A bilingual broadcast in Japanese and English today! We show you how girls have changed by the beautiful magic.
Today’s guests were girls from the Philippines. Hazel and Joanne who got makeup done by Ilona Krautsova, a professional makeup artist from Belarus.

今週も、女性がたくさんのMy Eyes Tokyoです。今から良い思いをしてしまうと後が大変なので、今回はちょっと自らに負荷を与えようと（笑）日本語と英語のバイリンガルで放送しました。
今週のゲストは、前回ベラルーシ出身のメイクアップアーティスト、クラウツォヴァ・イロナさんの手によるメイクで華麗に変身した女の子たち、ヘーゼルさんとジョアンさんです。

Ilona did their makeup for a night party. She put brighter colors on their faces because they were going out in the night. They are very cute, aren’t they? Of course their faces without makeups are also sweet.

まず、イロナさんが２人に施したのは「夜のパーティー用メイク」。夜だからちょっと明るめのメイクにしてみました、とのことですが、いかがでしょう？すっごくカワイくて、キレイですよね！もちろん、すっぴんがカワイイからこそ、なんですが。

Two girls came to Japan to learn elderly care. They are only 18 and 21 but really admirable. Moreover they take classes in Japanese even though they’ve been in Japan only for about 1 month and their Japanese is at that beginning stage!

そんなお２人は、何と老人介護の勉強をするために日本に来たのだそうです。まだ１８歳と２１歳なのに、本当に立派だな〜と思いました。しかも、まだ来日して１ヶ月ほどで、日本語はまだまだ勉強中にもかかわらず、日本語で授業を受けているんですよ！

Generally speaking, Filipinos are good at taking care of others. When you look at a BB at the National Azabu Supermarket, you’ll find bills that are written like “I can baby-sit for your child”. Those are written by Filipinos. Also I’ve heard that there are many Filipino nurses in the US.
I guess they seemed to get influenced by such an environment. They told us they came to Japan because they were interested in Japan or the Japanese language. But that’s not all.

フィリピンは、世界的に見ても「人の世話をする」のが好きだったり、得意だったりする人が多いのが特徴。ナショナル麻布など、外国人が多く買い物に来るスーパーの掲示板には「私、ベビーシッターできます！」と言う張り紙が必ず貼ってあって、そのどれもがフィリピンから来た人だったりします。他にも、アメリカの病院にはフィリピン人の看護婦さんがたくさんいると聞いたことがあります。
そういう環境に影響を受けたと思われるお２人ですが、「何故日本で介護の勉強を？」と言えば、日本や日本語への興味・・・だけではないんです。

Some of their family members are living in Tokyo and they brought girls over here. Now they’re struggling with the language barrier and studying to be caregivers. Back them up together!

彼女たちのご家族の何人かが都内にいて、その方々が彼女たちを日本に呼んだそうです。２人の日本への興味と、そばに呼び寄せたかったご家族の愛情が重なって、彼女たちは今、言葉の壁と闘いながら日本で勉強している。そんな若く健気な２人を、皆さんも応援してあげてくださいね。

I tell you one more thing which I’m enthusiastic about. I started to make dresses of yukatas, summer cotton kimonos. I show you a piece of work.

先週に続き、最近夢中になっていることパート２です。着物ドレスに続き、夏らしい浴衣でもドレスを作り始めました！ここで皆さんにお披露目しちゃいますね。

Looking cool, isn’t it? But I won’t wear it because it’s kind of shorty. So I want a young girl to put on.
Clothing fabric of yukata is harder than kimono’s so it’s difficult for me to make loose-bodied one. So dresses that are made of yukatas must be tight. That’s also the reason it suits for young girls. Oh, I came up with an idea! I’m going to ask girls from the Philippines to try it!

涼しそうでしょう？でも、残念ながら私は着ません・・・だってドレスの長さがちょっと短いから、もっと若い女の子に着てほしいです（笑）
着物よりも生地が硬いので、ふわっとしたデザインのものを作るのは難しいんです。だからどうしても、体のラインに沿ったものになります。それもあって、若い子の方が似合うんです。あ、そうだ♪ 先週からスタジオに遊びに来てくれている若いフィリピン人の女の子たちに着てもらおうっと！

Today we had many girls in the studio and talked about the “beauty of women”. I asked Ekaterina and Ilona, a Belarussian makeup artist who talked on the radio last month, about their treatments.
Also two foreign girls got their makeup by Ilona during the show. For women, it’s an envious experience, isn’t it? Thanks, Ilona san!

今週は、たくさんの女性たちで華やいだ茅場町のスタジオでした。そして夏にふさわしい「女性の美」をテーマに、２人の美人女性にお話をお聞きしました。一人がおなじみエカテリーナさん、そしてもう一人がベラルーシ出身のクラウツォヴァ・イロナさん・・・皆さん覚えていますか？６月１２日の放送にご出演いただいた、プロのメイクアップアーティストです。しかも今回は、スタジオで番組を進めている間に、イロナさんに２人の外国人女性にプロのメイク術を施していただくという超ゼイタクなことまでさせていただきました。イロナさん、ありがとうございました♪
