その男、パレスチナ人につき（A guy from Palestine）

There is the Tokyo’s only Palestinian restaurant in Kanda District, Chiyoda-ku. It’s called “Al Mina” and we welcomed its managing chef to our studio.

今週と来週は、一般の日本人があまり接することが無いであろう人にお越しいただきました。JR神田駅から徒歩５分にある、都内で唯一のパレスチナ料理店「アル・ミーナ」のオーナーシェフ、シャディ・バシイさんです。

His name is Shadi Bashiyi. I’ll talk to you about Shadi’s story next week so let me tell you his restaurant and Palestine cuisine.
Have you ever had Palestinian dishes? Those are unfamiliar to Japanese people, but delicious!! According to Shadi, Palestinians use much olive oil, tons of garlics, meat, vegetables and beans. Especially paste which is made from hummus and sesame is very popular among his customers.

シャディさんご自身については来週詳しく触れるとして、今週はシャディさんのレストランのこと、およびパレスチナ料理についてお話をお聞きしました。日本にはまだまだ馴染みが薄いかもしれないパレスチナ料理ですが、これがおいしいんですよ！今日のラジオでは、音声でイメージしていただくために「オリーブオイルやニンニクを多用」「お肉、野菜、豆のお料理が多い」「中でもひよこ豆とゴマのペーストはかなり人気」とシャディさんに解説していただきましたが、ブログですから写真でお見せしちゃいましょう！

Ekaterina, my co-host, also loves this paste! Shadi says, “I recreate my homemade taste. I put my love into the dishes.” That’s right, I had both Al Mina’s lunch and dinner, those were really, really good!
ひよこ豆とゴマのペーストは、ヘルシー志向のエカテリーナさんもお気に入りのメニュー。シャディさん曰く「僕のお母さんの味を再現しています。だからウチの料理には、しっかり愛が入っていますよ！」。その通り、僕はここのランチとディナーの両方をいただきましたが、とってもおいしかったです！

Beautiful belly dance shows are held on Wednesdays & Fridays.
ベリーダンスショーは毎週水曜と金曜の夜です。ちなみにこのダンサーさんとは、別のパレスチナ料理店（後述）で約１年半前にすでにお会いしていました・・・予想できなかった展開。

I’ve already tried the Palestinian cuisine at another restaurant in Saitama, so I knew it’s delicious. I felt it’s very similar to the Israeli one.
We may think that Palestinians and Israelis have been hating or hurting each other through the media, but I think food is similar. We’ll ask Shadi how he thinks about the conflicts between Palestine and Israel. So don’t miss it!

実は私は、埼玉にある別のパレスチナ料理店（アル・ミーナが開店するまでは、日本で唯一のパレスチナ料理店だった）ですでにパレスチナ料理を体験済みで、そのおいしさもよく分かっていました。また、その前にはイスラエルのお料理をいただいた経験もあったので、それらのお料理には同じようなメニューが多くあることも感じていました。
イスラエルとパレスチナ、ニュースの報道だけだと”お互いがいがみ合っている”という情報しか入ってきませんが、食べているお料理は同じものがかなり多いのです。温厚なパレスチナ人のシャディさんは、果たして今の状況を良しとされているのだろうか・・・これについては、来週にお伝えしたいと思いますので、どうぞお楽しみに！

The name of his restaurant “Al Mina” has several meanings. It means “port” and “A gift from God”. Also Mina is the name of his 5-year old daughter. It sounds very cute!

追伸）シャディさんのお店の名前「アル・ミーナ」は、いくつもの意味があるそうです。まずは”港”という意味、そして”神様からの贈り物”という意味、そして「ミーナ」はシャディさんの５歳になる娘さんのお名前なのだそう。何とも可愛らしい響きですよね！
