A talk with Mohamed Bashir, the visually-impaired from Sudan, continues this week. We talked about “Job opportunities for sight-restricted”.
\nAfter he came to Japan in 2000, Bashir went to a school for the visually impaired. That school teaches how to read Braille, how to use sticks when they walk streets.
\nAlso that school has a unique curriculum, which teaches the techniques of Japanese traditional massage (“anma”) and acupuncture. Bashir learned them and worked at a clinic in Kyoto as a massage professional.<\/p>\n

Then he studied about “Handicapped Persons’ Employment Promotion Act” at university. After that, he found a company to work at a job fair which was held in Osaka. it’s called “Sawakami Asset Management Inc.”<\/a> That company recruits employees regardless of their nationalities, genders, with or without handicap, etc. He was deeply impressed by that and decided to join the company. His new assignment seemed to be very different from the previous one, but he was originally interested in working at a finance-related company. So it was natural for him to change his career.
\nNow he has two dreams. If he needs to go back home, he wants to contribute to improve the work environment for people with visual impairment in Sudan. If he doesn’t need to go back home, he wants to open his own clinic in Japan. In either case, he will work towards his dream by drawing on all of his experiences.<\/p>\n
