A talk with Hector Sierra, a representative of NGO “Artist Without Borders” continues. He told us about what he saw in post-911 Afghanistan.<\/p>\n

After Hector finished a workshop with New York kids, he came back to Japan and left for Afghanistan in May 2002. Hector suggested for Afghan kids to draw pictures of their town as well as in New York.
\nTaliban regime collapsed about two months after 911 attacks and Afghan people celebrated a restoration of a long-absent peace. Many kids drew the scenes of bloodshed by Taliban instead of views of their town.<\/p>\n

But Hector found a ray of hope there. He got some drawings for design of WTC in New York. He brought them to Afghanistan and showed kids them. He asked children, “What do you want to build on the WTC site?”. One of them said, “I would like to build a university for orphans all around the world.” All of them were orphans but I was surprised that a toddler-aged kid provided such a valuable opinion.
\nMoreover New York is very far from Afghanistan. It must be too far for them to give more than a passing thought to. But a kid said that he wanted to open such a significant facility on Ground Zero. I believe that the world would be improved by such wonderful children.<\/p>\n
