Now it’s summer! Fortunately (not fortunately for people who’re involved in agriculture) it’s not so hot, but are you doing anything to save on electricity? Tonight we revealed the result of a poll which was conducted on Facebook the end of this May. We asked you “Any suggestions for saving electricity and staying cool this summer?” We’re so sorry to keep you waiting.

夏真っ盛り！と言いたいところですが、先日の台風６号が去ってからというもの、それまでの暑さが嘘のように一気に涼しくなり、そして今は例年よりも過ごしやすくなっていますね。節電には良いかもしれませんが、農業にとっては・・・？冷夏にならないことを祈ります。
私たちMy Eyes Tokyoは、まだ暑くなる前の５月末にこんなアンケートを取りました。

Note; Our staff says that using the “Dry” function on the ACs instead of “cooler” wouldn’t be effective on saving energy very much.

中尊寺で有名な岩手県平泉町が、先月２６日に世界遺産に登録されました！

3. Joining “Morioka Sansa Odori Festival”! 「盛岡さんさ踊り」に行ってみよう！

昨年５月に私たちの番組にゲスト出演して下さった方が、事故により亡くなりました。

東京外大の学生たちで組んだバンド「Pandora’s Beatbox」のボーカルであり、雑誌「Oar」の編集長を務められていた野上郁哉さんが、２４日未明に府中市内でひき逃げされ、亡くなりました。まだ２４歳、早過ぎる死でした。

言葉が見つかりません。個人的には「ご冥福をお祈りいたします」の一言で片付けたくないのが本音です。でもせめて、将来有望だった彼の、音楽に懸けるひたむきな姿勢をお聴きいただけたらと思います。上記URLをクリックすると、再生ボタンがページの一番上にありますので、彼の声に耳を傾けてみてください。

 

Have you participated any international exchange activities? There are a lot of groups who support your lives here in Japan. And they hold many kinds of events you can enjoy mingling with Japanese people.
For example, there is a new push in Chiba Prefecture. A city called Yotsukaido (where Tokuhashi is from), located approximately 40 km east of the center of Tokyo, launched its international exchange organization called “YOCCA” (Yotsukaido Cross-cultural Association) early this July.

この番組をお聴きの皆様にとっては、国際交流は身近なものかもしれません。日本人住民と外国人住民がお互いに交流を楽しむイベントが、日々どこかで行われています。「この夏は国際交流が熱い！」と題して、My Eyes Tokyoの原点である国際交流をテーマに今週はお送りしました。

BTW, today we featured “Chuo-ku International Salon“, which organizes cultural exchange events once a month and  any people who live in or work in Chuo-ku can join them. They’ve held such as “Tanabata & yukata”, tea ceremony, Halloween and so on.
And we shared wonderful comments from Stephen Cotton, a vice chairman of Chuo-ku International exchange salon with you. He’s participated its activities and was recommended to become a staff of the salon. As a foreign citizen of  Chuo-ku, what does he want to do? Hit the play button on the top of this page.

これは私事で大変恐縮ですが、私の出身地・千葉県四街道市では今月９日に「四街道市国際交流協会」（通称YOCCA）が発足したばかり。皆様の街にある国際交流協会の方々に教えを請いながら、一歩ずつ前進して行かれることになると思います。そんなヨチヨチ歩きの協会の「先輩」として、また『My Eyes Tokyo』番組スタート時からずっとお世話になっている方々として、今週はこのスタジオの地元・中央区の国際交流イベント企画集団「中央区国際交流サロン」を特集しました。
この国際交流サロンは毎月１回、中央区在住・在勤の日本人や外国人を対象にイベントを開いています。七夕＆浴衣イベント、お茶、ハロウィーンなど、国籍や人種の壁を越えて楽しめるものばかりです。しかも驚くなかれ、このサロンは大地震の翌日の２０１１年３月１２日にも”築地散策ツアー”を敢行したのです！帰宅困難者の方も参加されたそうです。

And we introduced some international exchange events in Tohoku area. Those will be (some of them have already done) held in Morioka (Iwate Pref), Sendai (Miyagi Pref) and the City of Fukushima. They are going to enjoy the cultural exchange, too, especially Iwate people will enjoy karaoke together!

We had Kimberly Forsythe, the president of “Tyler Foundation“, as a guest again this week. We heard that they’ve been supporting children in Tohoku since the 3.11 Earthquake.
However, we think we didn’t tell you about the foundation itself enough. Was it established after the earthquake? No, it launched long before 3.11 to support daily lives of childhood cancer patients and their families. It means they’ve been experts in childcare for a long time so they are really qualified. Learn what they’ve been doing for sick children by hitting an orange-colored play button above, or watch a clip beow.

今週は先週に引き続き、東北の子供たちの支援を行う「タイラー基金」理事長、キンバリー・フォーサイスさん（以下キムさん）をお迎えしました。この「タイラー基金」は、３月１１日に発生した地震よりもずっと前から、主に小児がんの子供たちとそのご家族をサポートする活動を続けている、言わば”子供のプロ”です。どのような活動を続けてこられたかについては、今日の放送をお聴きください。ページトップのオレンジ色の再生ボタンをクリックするとお聴きになれます。加えて、下のYouTubeビデオもご覧になると、タイラー基金のことをさらに深く理解できると思います。

Also the foundation owes its name to Kimberly’s son. His name is Tyler, who was diagnosed with infant acute lymphoblastic leukemia when he was less than one month old. But he was a really happy boy! 「タイラー基金」の名前の元になったのが、キムさんの愛息、タイラーちゃんです。生後１ヶ月にも満たない時に急性リンパ性白血病と診断されました。大変悲しいことに、タイラーちゃんはわずか２年の短すぎる生涯を閉じたのですが、キムさん曰く彼はとってもとっても明るい子だったそうです。キムさんが憂鬱な気持ちで病室に行くと、タイラーちゃんはいつもニコニコ、まるで太陽のような明るい笑顔をふりまいていました。

「タイラー基金」は、同じように病気と闘っている子供たちに、タイラーちゃんのような明るい笑顔を取り戻してもらうべく、２００６年に設立されました。以来「病気との闘いを少しでも楽に、そして未来に希望を！」をスローガンに、様々な活動をされています。そんなタイラー基金への寄付はこちらで受け付けています。
