アップデートが遅くなり、申し訳ございませんでした！

I held a kimono fashion show at the Hotel New Otani on Nov. 9. It was my second kimono show and much to my delight, tickets were sold out!

１１月９日（火）、ホテルニューオータニ「鳳凰の間」にて、私にとって２回目の着物ドレスファッションショーをしました。用意していたチケットは、嬉しいことに全て売り切れ！でも「行きたかった〜」という声が今、私の耳にも聞こえてきますので、ここでファッションショーのご報告をさせていただきたいと思います。

Many celebrities and people who support my activities came to my show!

この日お越しいただいたお客様の中には、私が結婚式で歌わせていただいた皆川賢太郎さん＆上村愛子さんご夫妻や、政治家の後藤田正純さん、そして私がいつもいつもお世話になっているボニージャックスの西脇久夫さん、NHK『みんなのうた』プロデューサーの川崎龍彦さんなど、いろんな方々が来て下さいました。本当に嬉しかったです！

This time, the show featured my songs rather than kimonos. The show was three-part; 1st & 3rd stage featured songs from my new album called “Yume” (Dream) and I revealed my collection on the 2nd stage.

今回は前回の銀座でのショーと違い、どちらかというと私の歌がメインでした。１部は私の歌、２部は私がデザインした着物ドレスのファッションショー、そして３部は再び歌を披露しました。もちろん、私の新しいアルバム『夢』に入っている曲も全て歌いました。

I hired professional models this time. While they were walking on a runway, I explained about my works with an MC. I believe that people could understand which kinds of materials I used and how I designed dresses.

２部は着物ファッションショー。前回は私が自分で音楽を流して、モデルさんにはただ歩いてもらうだけでしたが、今回は長〜いランウェイをモデルさんにゆっくり歩いてもらい、その間に司会の方と私が解説するというスタイルをとりました。何を素材にして、私がどんなところを工夫してデザインしたのかを、よりはっきりとお客様にお伝えできたと思います。

Then I sang “Turandot” at the very end of the show and received great applause. And in an encore, I sang the medley of Japanese & Russian folk songs with their clapping. It felt great!

そして第３部・・・最後は『トゥーランドット』を歌い上げてたくさんの拍手をいただきました。そしてアンコールは、私が持ってきた電子ピアノを使ってロシア＆日本の民謡や歌謡曲のメドレーを、皆さんの手拍子に載せて気持よく歌うことができました。

My new album “Yume” sold like hot cakes! People who bought it wanted my autograph. I was really, really happy with that! Let me say I love Japan and I love you all! Thank you very much!!!

ニューアルバム『夢』もすっごく評判が良くて、買って下さったお客様からサインをたくさんお願いされました。もう本当に、本当に私は幸せ者だと思いました。あらためて日本ダイスキ、日本のみなさんダイスキ！とここで声を大きくして言わせていただきます。本当に、ありがとうございました！

We continue a talk with “Niki’s Kitchen“, a cooking school which teaches a variety of dishes from around the world. Naoko Tanase, a representative of Niki’s Kitchen, told us her bane of school management.

Tanase came up against a difficulty as soon as she began to look for teachers. She asked foreigners to be cooking teachers directly, but they said, “I don’t want to invite unknown Japanese into my house.” However Tanase didn’t give up and she found a foreigner who wanted to be a cooking teacher finally.
Tanase got more teachers after that, but not all has been smooth sailing. For example, some young teachers quit teaching because students made complaints about their recipes. On the other hand, old women gained popularity because of their abundant cook experience.

Now the most popular class in Niki’s Kitchen is booked in one minute. It shows how popular Niki’s Kitchen is, but her life is still full of cares because there’re always cultural gaps between foreign teachers and Japanese students.
If your teachers are from Asian countries, they would feel that your questions are distractions in their classes. So they give you precise instruction on how to cook in order to cover any question. On the other hand, teachers from Europe and US think that you’re passionate about classes if you ask something. So they teach you roughly in order to leave room for questions. Japanese tend to feel that the Asian way is kinder so teachers from Europe and the US experience hardship.
So Tanase holds meetings with them and looks for teaching method which students want. She said, “The most important assignment which I have to work on is to bridge cultural gaps”.

先週に引き続き、世界中の家庭料理を外国人の自宅で学べる料理教室のお話です。「Niki’s Kitchen」主宰の棚瀬尚子さんにお越しいただき、学校を運営する際のご苦労についてお話いただきました。

棚瀬さんがまず苦労されたのが、先生を見つけることでした。街で外国人を見つけては、先生になってくれるよう直接交渉しましたが、「ネットで集めてきたような日本人を、自分の家に上げることには抵抗がある」と、多くの外国人たちがお断りしたのです。それでも粘り強く探し続け、学校立ち上げから１ヶ月後に、ようやく一人目の先生に辿り着きました。
その後、先生の数は増えていきましたが、決して一直線の右肩上がりだったわけではありません。例えば比較的若い先生だと、ちょっと生徒さんに注文をつけられると、ショックで辞めてしまったこともあったそうです。そんな中で生徒さんを離さなかったのは、経験豊富な「おばちゃん先生」でした。

今では人気のクラスだと１分で予約が埋まってしまうほど大人気のNiki’s Kitchenですが、まだまだ苦労は絶えません。なぜなら、外国人の先生と日本人の生徒さんの間には、どうしても文化の”ズレ”ができてしまうからだそうです。
例えばアジア系の先生は、生徒さんが質問してくるのをあまり好まず、質問が出ないように教える一方、欧米系の先生は逆に質問が飛び出してくるように、敢えて余裕を持って教えます。そして多くの生徒さんにとっては前者、つまり質問が出る余地のないほどキッチリと教えてくれる先生の方が好まれるとのことで、そこで棚瀬さんの出番です。欧米系の先生と話し合い、クラスの在り方を生徒さんが望む方向に微調整していきます。棚瀬さん曰く「私の仕事の大半は、このような文化のズレの微調整」とのことです。

そんな棚瀬さんに、私は勢い余って変なニックネームをつけてしまいました。「国連ひとり」。”劇団ひとり”みたいですね（笑）棚瀬さんが異文化間の調停役を長年お一人で担ってきたことへの敬意をこめて呼ばせていただいたのですが、いかがでしょうか？

A fashion show which I put all my energy into will be held on Nov.9 at Hotel New Otani. Tickets were sold out! Thank you very much!

Three professional models from Russia will appear in my fashion show. Of course I sing songs, that are included on my new album. It’s my most recent work and I really love it. So I would like you to listen to my newest tunes.
I’ll sing my earlier songs, too, including “Hokkyoku Guma” (Polar Bear) because the theme of this fashion show is “Prevent global warming!”.

Kimono dresses, models and songs, I believe everything is wonderful. However I wonder whether people think so, I wonder whether I can cause them to remark that everything is fabulous. Actually I’m nervous, but I hope you’ll enjoy it!

１１月９日、いよいよ３日後です。私のエネルギー全部を注いだ着物ファッションショーが、ホテルニューオータニで行われます。おかげさまで、チケットは完売しました！本当にありがとうございます。

今回協力してくれるモデルさんは３人。全員プロのモデルさんです。
しかも、私がショーで歌わせていただく曲は私のニューアルバムから。出来上がったばかりのアルバムは、今までの中で一番好きです。だから、 皆さんにはぜひ聴いていただきたいです。
もちろん、過去のナンバーも歌います。今回は「ストップ！地球温暖化」がテーマなので、「みんなのうた」でおなじみの『ホッキョクグマ』も歌います。

でもね・・・今、とっても緊張しているんです。歌も着物ドレスもモデルさんも、どれも素晴らしい。でも私がそう思っているだけかもしれないじゃないですか。「そんなことない！」って、私じゃなくて、皆さんに言わせたい。「どれも最高だったよ！」って言っていただくステージにしたいと思っていますので、ぜひ楽しみにしていてくださいね。
